A Load of Bright
An atheist's views on religion and the supernatural

A load of bright

Greetings to the world on this, the day of my birth into the blogosphere.

First, an explanation of the title. For the definition of ‘bright’ in this context, I must refer you to the Brights movement home page:

http://www.the-brights.net/

The title is also a play on words with the British slang “shite” as an alternative to “shit”. I don’t think it’s commonly used in America, but trust me, it’s hilarious.

In this sense, I am a bright. I am an atheist, a sceptic, a rationalist, a naturalist, a materialist and a humanist. I don’t believe in any gods, nor do I believe in anything supernatural or paranormal. I have felt this way for approximately 2 years. After doing a lot of reading on religion, philosophy and the supernatural (although I make no claim to expertise) I have decided to begin posting my own thoughts on these areas.

There are two main reasons I have decided to begin writing my own views on the net. First, until now, I didn’t feel confident enough with my own knowledge of the subjects about which I’m writing. In many ways, I still don’t, but I think that the process of writing my thoughts down will help to increase my knowledge. Secondly, the threat from religious fundamentalists and peddlers of the paranormal industry to real people is a very serious one, and the more people that are speaking out in favour of atheism and rationalism, the more we can do to keep this threat at bay.

I hope you agree with anything I have to say. If not, I’ll settle for you keeping an open mind, giving me a fair hearing and then offering constructive feedback.

Enjoy!

  1. Hiya,

Glad to see a UK atheist blogger!

I can assure you that writing is very intellectually therapeutic, so I hope it helps you to collect your thoughts.

    Good luck,

    James
